Blogging from the road.

12/17/05

7:19am(CT)
We have hit our first problem. After almost 2 hours of driving, the check tire pressure notification comes on in our suburban. Tire pressure readings are as follows:

driver's side:
front - 31
rear - 18

passenger's side:
front - 21
rear - 43

The reading should be around 40-42ish for each. This might pose as a challenging problem. More on that later though.

11:11am(CT)
Make a wish.

We stopped in Altus OK so Matthew could buy a new motorcycle, tried to eat breakfast at McDonalds at 10:30. That didn't happen so we went to KFC...which doesn't open till 11. So we went back to McDonalds. Best decision by far. At this McD's there was a train that ran from one room to the next and looped back again. Jonathan, Nathan, and I conducted it throughout the store. People were looking around to see who's obnoxious children were pressing the buttons making all the ruckus, but alas it was merely three 22-26 year old kids.

Watching the train go through the room was like our own little piece of magic found in a little town in OK.

p.s. the tire is still losing air gradually.

11:51am(MT)

we finallay made it into Breckenridge at 3:30 this morning(CT). Nearly a 24 hour drive.

More info on the tires:
At about 2pm yesterday we stopped in amarillo to have lunch and get these tires checked out. There was something wrong with the valve stems, the computer, and the pressure sensors. Needless to say, we were in Amarillo by 2pm and gone by around 5.

None of us are skiing or boarding today because of 3 reasons:
a: 4 of us still don't have boards or skis
b: we are all tired from driving
c: we figure we will go mon - thurs instead of sun - wed.
This will give us some time to run into town and grab stuff we forgot, and things we need as well as time to relax and get physically and mentally prepared for the adventures we will be seeking out the next few days.

p.s. Let me introduce you to all the people in our cars on the trip up.
Mr & Mrs. Jennings, Natalie, Nathan, Matthew, Lindsey, Jonathan, Melinda, and Myself.

10:01pm(MT)
Bought my board and bindings today. Got a flippin' sweet deal. Met some cool people and walked around Breck for about an hour with Jonathan. The Jennings and Reynolds have been more than accommodating and have basically welcomed me in as family. Which is odd that I typed that because right as the 'Y' key raised, I heard Natalie's voice in the other room over the Sigur Rós in my headphones. Apparently she was mid conversation and said..."that's right, we're like family."

We also went and saw Narnia, some of us for a second or 3rd time. What a phenomenal film. All in all it was a good day of rest and relaxation. Looking forward to tomorrow. Here's the planned schedule:

7:00 - come awake from sleep, arise and eat
8:00 - go to lifts
8:30 - get on lift
8:40 - ski/snowboard
1:00 - grab some grub and meet up with The Logans and go snow-shoing (I believe that is spelled correctly).
?:30 - go ice skating
10ish - have a pipe/cigar with nate and jonathan out in the snow.

We'll see how things play out.

5:06pm(MT)
Well, we boarded. And it was good. We came home at 1:00 and went snow-shoing from 2:45ish 4:30. The Logans are coming up on wed instead of tonight so we are going to go ice skating then. now we are taking another break from the intense hiking and boarding. Watching some Lost Season 1. Matthew is hooked.

Snow-shoing however is awesome. I was listening to Takk by Sigur Rós letting the snow fall on my face. It was beautiful.

On another note I realized two things about mittens.
1 - they keep your hands warmer than gloves
2 - giving someone the finger is impossible. mittens make it difficult to communicate your anger effectively. people just think you are waving at them.

8:47pm(MT)
Another good day of boarding. Nathan taught me how to land a jump properly and I'm feeling a lot better about going quickly and keeping my balance. We decided to go into a terrain park that was closed off. Beautiful powder and a gorgeous, untouched area(I'll post a pic when I can). But it was roped off so needless to say, we got in trouble. Luckily though the Ski Patrol guy was cool and did not take away our passes for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow morning we will meet up with the Logans and Brianne(I think that is how you spell her name. If not, I appologize.) Then another day of intense boarding and hurting ourselves. Nathan and Natalie got some good pictures which I hope to post as soon as I get home, and hopefully I will get to post this gi-normous message before leaving Colorado.

a good night

tonight was supposed to be like any other night, but instead i decided to go christmas shopping in dallas. a friend of mine was supposed to go with me (i'm not going to name names), but brian had other plans. no matter. it worked out for the better.

brian. if you are reading this, i bought your christmas present. so there.

after christmas shopping i met up with ashley, went to dinner and got a tour of the dallas area where she lives. then i got to go see Walk the Line. phenomenal. all in all a good night. and i am now home and about to go to sleep.

p.s. the one part that sucked is when one of my windshield wipers went too far and popped off the side of my window (driver's side one). i had to temporaraly fix it and they were both half way up. that made driving difficult.

p.p.s. - its 3:20ish in the morning and i'm not all there so i'm not entirely shure what i am typing and i dont feel like proofreading so deal with the spelling errors.

12:02am. Mikel, Rich, Adam and myself decide to run to an Exxon near our hotel in Nashville to grab some late night caffination.

Surprise. On the way back we were robbed. Welcome to Nashville I guess. I am saddened because the guy seemed desperate and could have asked us nicely for what ever we had. Collectively we had a total of about 15-20 dollars cash. Sucks for him because all the credit cards were canceled with in 30 minutes. But the hassle of getting more cards and replacing drivers licenses is going to be annoying.

Negative surprise but I guess all I can do now for the guy is pray that he finds what he is looking for (rather, what he should be looking for) in this world. [love.embrace.live]
